The prestigious seaside resort of Biarritz stands on the Atlantic coast and is a world famous surf spot. Above all, Biarritz is part of the pays Basque which is an area with a strong cultural identity that has preserved its traditions and offers a fantastic way of life. You will discover a unique atmosphere, incredibly lush surrounding countryside and beautiful beaches, all just a few minutes from Spain. With its vibrant nightlife, you will have the chance to take part in one of the many popular festivals and village fetes held each year in Biarritz and the area. Biarritz also enjoys its very own culture, the culture of the Basque Country, between France and Spain. This culture has developed into many different aspects in our modern times, such a sport for instance. The region has its very own local sport known as the Basque Pelota, it is played with a very hard ball and either a racket or a basket to catch the ball. Biarritz is also famous for its rugby club, crowned champion of France five times and several times a finalist in the European championship. But the most famous part of Biarritz's sports life is of course the surf. The city is known as the French capital of surf where thousands of surfers come every year from different countries to enjoy the unique ocean side and its famous waves. Many surfers incidentally come to France Langue Biarritz to learn French while practicing their passion on the Côte Des Basques, Biarritz's most beautiful beach.
Housed in a beautiful house typical of the Basque Country dating from 1850, our school has 10 classrooms.
France Langue Biarritz is in the heart of the French surfing capital city, ten minutes walking distance from the beach, in a neighbourhood where everything is accessible by foot, or by surfboard.

The French surfing capital has a fascinating history. Former whale fishing harbour, Biarritz grew considerably in the 19th century when French Empress Eugenie, wife of Napoleon the Third, elected the city as her favourite vacation place. Eugenie used to come to Biarritz to enjoy sea swimming and other activities and very quickly, she was joined by the entire Napoleonic imperial aristocracy. The little city became a real touristic, cultural and diplomatic centre. All Europe joined Eugenie and Napoleon in the Basque Country to enjoy swimming in the Atlantic. This singular history transformed Biarritz into a unique, rich, cultural city, despite its smaller size. Some buildings, built under Napoleon the Third in the Haussmannian style, underline this unique identity. Some might say that it is almost like a little corner of Paris nestled in the Basque Country by the ocean. But the locals might not appreciate that comparison!
