On Wednesday December 11, 2019, climbing (the art of climbing peaks and walls in the high mountains) was listed as an intangible heritage by UNESCO. France, Italy and Switzerland have worked together to defend this discipline which takes its name from the mountain range that these three countries have in common, the Alps, the historic site of this activity.
The city of Chamonix is also called Chamonix-Mont-Blanc because it is located at the foot of Mont-Blanc, the highest peak in the Alps. Its ski area, on the border of Switzerland and Italy is reputed to be one of the best in France. It includes almost 400 km of piste and 124 ski lifts.
Each year the city of Chamonix hosts various sporting events such as the Alpine Skiing World Cup (January), the Mont-Blanc Marathon and Cross (June), the International Climbing Festival (July) and the "North Face Ultra-Trail of the Mont-Blanc "(August).
Chamonix benefits from an exceptional mountain climate which allows the practice of sports activities in summer and winter. All year round, the cable cars transport visitors to the various peaks which offer exceptional panoramic views on the roof of Europe.
Karine, our French teacher and mountain expert, welcomes you to a school with a breathtaking view of Mont-Blanc.
Our building is located between the Arve river and Place Edmond Desailloud.
Ideally located in the heart of the city of Chamonix, on a very lively square where there are many bars and restaurants, Karine welcomes you in a friendly atmosphere with a tea or coffee offered at the start of the course.

"More than once, like everyone, I have asked myself the question: " Climbing, what is it for? "Surely, nothing that can be bought.
We climb the mountains "because they are there", and mountaineering is the triumph of free effort. There is no bonus for climbing a summit, even if it is a "first". But it's not just money that counts.
We are not going to forget the beauty of certain sunsets; in the night, the brotherhood of the stars; in the morning, the dawn that gives life.
We are not about to forget the pleasure of climbing, to neutralize gravity, the impression of leaving your heavy carcass to evolve in the sky.
We are not going to forget the friendship of the team, the victory over oneself, and, for the guide, the joy of sharing what is best. "Gaston Rébuffat
